　莫娜丽莎的微笑

一定有什么
不可告人的秘密

在她面前
一个男人歪着头左右打量
他的身傍
一个打扮入时的女人
正咧嘴而笑

　观　音
 
法力再无边
到了这里
也只能低头
憋气
连腰都不敢
伸

　后记：听说当年槟城极乐寺筹建观音塑像时，原来的计划是一百二
十尺，因高度超过当地的回教堂，结果被缩减为八十尺。这使我联想
到，该国为了照顾马来人而设立的一些法律，使华人无法像新加坡的
华人般人尽其才，委实可惜。最近接到当地一位友人来信，说现时情
况已有所改变
。原因是前年大选，执政党靠华人票重新获得三分之二多数席位，政
策因此放宽了些。而已倒塌的旧观音，也将由更高更大的新观音取代。
可见要改变华人的处境与政治地位，途径是很明显的。

even with her almighty power
she had to lower her head
and hold her breath
careful not to give
a spontaneous
stretch

　* A few years ago in Penang, Malaysia, the Chinese
community's plan of erecting a 120-foot statue of 
Guanyin,  the Goddess of Mercy,  was forced to scale 
down to 80 feet so as to meet the ordinance of not 
exceeding the height of the tallest mosque in the city.
